Participants will explore how trauma impacts the body and mind, and be guided through activities that offer practical tools to regulate and restore balance to the nervous system.

Claiming Purpose: Rebuilding in the Aftermath

A supportive space for acknowledging the deep questions many of us face after natural disaster—questions about our purpose, role, and the meaning of our experiences. Through guided exercises, group discussions, and expert insights, attendees gain a greater understanding of how to process and heal, while honoring their unique journey in finding clarity and resilience.

Honoring Our Grief: Navigating Individual & Collective Loss

An orientation to and exploration of grief (what is it?) and opportunities to help each other honor what we have lost, including the beautiful natural spaces that have been impacted by the storm. The workshop is a blend of teaching, smaller group activity, and internal reflection, as well as a taste of the longer and immersive Bright Shadow retreats.
Custom Programming
Offerings build on Bright Shadow’s post-Helene Mental Health Workshop Series and longstanding work in trauma-informed community care. Curriculum is adapted specifically for the occupational stressors, moral injury, and chronic exposure faced by the unique team being served.
Practical Tools for Stress & Trauma Recovery
Facilitated by licensed mental health professionals • Psychoeducation on the nervous system • Understanding disaster-related stress • Skills for regulating overwhelm and chronic activation
Restorative, Nature-based Integration
When possible, retreats are held in rural or natural settings to support nervous system recovery, offering calm, distance, and repair after months of high-intensity work.
Somatic & Peer Supported Practices
Participants learn body-based tools for grounding and resilience, with guided time for safe connection among peers who share similar experiences and pressures
Experiential and Tailored Offerings
Confidential, trauma-informed mini-retreats and workshop series designed specifically for the needs and context of the population: essential service providers post natural disaster; outdoor and adventure programs post incident; any community in need of support after trauma and loss.
