The Discomfort Zone Podcast

Check out our interview with Anna Levesque on The Discomfort Zone podcast, where Chris and I speak to the unique challenges of grief and loss in the outdoor adventure community, as well as the resources found therein.

We speak to the goals within the mission of Bright Shadow:

“By going to these places, we discover more capacity for love, joy, light. It deepens our experience of life… One of our goals is undoing aloneness… it’s not so much the hard parts of life that are intolerable, it’s when we navigate them alone or believe that we’re navigating them alone. So undoing that aloneness is a goal. Learning how to orient to resource… in order to grow the capacity to tolerate the challenging feelings. Learning how to slow down and feel what’s happening in the moment and learn that it’s not too much. Those are some of our goals.” - Sommerville

And the larger currents that thread their way into our various offerings:

“Approaching and acknowledging and loving that aspect of yourself and all of yourself [the grief] allows you to tap into this aquifer of joy and vitality and vibrancy that you just didn’t know existed before. It makes me think about when we lose someone or a place that we love… we are forced to realize that nothing is forever… that change is the only constant and that life is uncontrollable to a degree and it’s impermanent… What an incredible mystery that is.” - Chris

We hope you give it a listen and find some resonance within. And reach out with your own additions to the conversation. We are in this together.

See you downstream,

Sommerville
